Drums of Singapore and Beyond

Malay, Indian and Chinese drums form the basis for a wide ranging look at drums and rhythms of cultures in Singapore and beyond. The drums and rhythms are showcased on their own and, more importantly, in harmony with each other.
We dispel the myths and misconceptions surrounding Middle Eastern dance by showing the basics of the art form, and the concrete connection between the dance and traditional Middle Eastern music, and providing a short history of the true origins of the dance.

Move to the Groove: Middle Eastern Music and Movement

Desert Rhythms: Drums and Rhythms of the Middle East

We showcase the rhythms of the Middle East and the drums we use to play them and bring the students directly into the music making process as well

From two distinct artistic traditions, Indian and Middle Eastern, we showcase drums, string instruments and dance. Each tradition is showcased on its own as well as in concert with the other. We show that an Indian dancer can dance as beautifully to Middle Eastern music as to Indian music, and vice versa.
